Elisante managed a coffee cooperative of 120 farmers on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, producing some of Tanzania's finest Arabica. Income per kilogram increased fourfold as the cooperative began selling directly to specialty coffee importers in the EU and Japan. All 120 member farmers saw significant income increases, and the cooperative has attracted 40 new members. Kilimanjaro Premium Coffee now has direct relationships with three international buyers and is pursuing Rainforest Alliance certification.
